Olympic Torch visits OWL Trust
The Paralympic torch was passed to Waverley Primary from Canning Street this week. The pupils received the torch with great excitement and paraded it around the school. Ten torch bearers were selected to carry the torch because of their work towards the Paralympic values - the rest of the school cheered them on their procession. The whole school came together for Paralympic workshops, including blind football, to celebrate the event with emissaries from the Rio Paralympics and local dignitaries such as The Lord Mayor of Newcastle, MP Catherine McKinnell, Councillor David Cook and Councillor Barry Phillipson. It was an amazing opportunity for the children to be part of the relay that will eventually end at the Olympic Stadium in the summer and to highlight the Paralympic values within the OWL Trust.
