OWL Careers Expo 2015
OWL pupils undertook a day together at The Great North Museum. They met representatives from Parkdene Holidays; Sage; The Bank of England; Ryder Architects; Northumberland College; our local universities; CT4T Initial Teacher Training; Natwest; Newcastle College; Walbottle Campus; Tyne and Wear Museums and Archive; Enterprise City and the Police. Their task was to meet with the representatives to find out about possible opportunities in the future. They also took part in workshops led by Technology Tom (Design and Engineering); Katie Salkeld of Westerhope (accounts); Dale Anderson of Enterprise City (interview technique) and Sage (CV writing). All of the pupils were a delight and our business partners were impressed with their questions in particular. We thank all of those who supported the event but particularly Jo Warner of Westerhope for her organisation on the day.
Our exploits also featured on BBC Look North later in the evening with interviews of several pupils, our business partners and Jo Warner.
The first OWL cyclo-event took place with West Denton, Newburn and Waverley pupils travelling around the bridges from Wylam to Newburn. On the way they took part in forest school activities with Mr Roberts from Waverley cooking al fresco. Mr Mingstones from West Denton led the peloton and Mr Vyle from Newburn set up cyclo challenges on Ryton Willows. The children had lunch at Clara Vale and whizzed past George Stephenson’s cottage before setting off home. What a day!
